Dress for the Cinema

     Valentino Garavani, creator of the Haute Couture house Valentino, was first inspired to design dresses when he saw the movie Ziegfeld Girl. He fell in love with the glamour of the silver screen, and that people dressed up to go to the cinema. He loved the beauty of it all, the acting and the amazing costumes they were, then the people enjoying the film dressed up very fancy. "I know what women want. They want to be beautiful". That's why he started designing dresses.

     I adore the idea of wearing your best clothes when you go out to any event. In the 40's and 50's, men and women would dress in their nicest clothes to go to dinner or the movies. The majority if the time, they were at home. They wanted to look better when they went out then they did at home. If they wanted to dress in casual clothing, they would have saved a lot of money and stayed home. 

     It is very elegant when women wear flattering dresses when they go out, and men, suits. We all enjoy looking good, which in turn makes us feel good. When you dress nice, you usually feel more confident. Personally, wearing a dress makes me feel beautiful and happy. That's why we do it. Hence, when we are at home we wear casual clothing, going out is a less frequent occasion, why not feel extra beautiful when you go out and dress up.

   "Characters who like hot jazz". The first definition of hipster listed in the dictionary "For Characters Who Don't Dig Jive Talk". Initially hipsters were young white kids in the 40's and 50's that wanted to be in the scene of the black jazz musicians they followed.
      In the 90's it was a subculture that listened to indie music, wore vintage and thrift store clothes, and had nonconformity views politically. The culture has been described as a melting pot of styles, tastes, and behaviors by Christian Lorentzen of Time Out New York. In my opinion, that is the best way to describe it.
     Now in our modern times, we all decline that we are hipsters. The word and meaning has grown to have a bad connotation. Today we all mix different genres of music, clothing, movies, etc. there are still defined groups of people, but more and more we are developing our own independent views and tastes.
     I'm a hipster, I have such a variety of tastes in all art. I don't partially enjoy country music, but just because a song is under the genre of country doesn't mean I won't give it a chance. I will listen and see how it makes me feel, and if I like the production of it. And if I like it, then I like a country song. If we never knew what genre meant we would listen to everything based on how we feel about it and if we like it. Some days I dress like I'm a woman from the 50's and other days I dress rockabilly. Therefore I'm a hipster, because I'm not conforming to one group. I don't mind being called a hipster because of the actual meaning of hipster.

Bring on autumn

    Fall is such a wonderful time of year. The weather is getting cooler, it's time to cuddle by the fire, drink and eat everything pumpkin, and and get out those adorable coats. When fall comes, it's perfect to be the most creative with your closet. You can do so many different combinations with few items. Scarfs are such a universal accessory; around your neck, as a belt, or in your hair.
     The runway had such intricately designed coats this season. Burberry, Valentino, and Chanel never fail to amaze me with their designs. Now, runway is hard to replicate on the street, but you can take trends from the runway and make them affordable. There was a lot of over the knee boots; instead of spending a good amount of money on them, buy over the knee socks and wear them with any shoe. Have fun!

Hello lovely patterns

Let me rave about how much I enjoy patterned pants! Trousers, jeans, dress pants, any bottoms that are patterned. I wake up early every day and press snooze about 4 times, which means I don't give myself very much time to get ready and dressed. Patterned pants are expanding a vast amount in my closet, I pair it with a simple top and it becomes such a fun and simple outfit. And it on,y takes me five minutes to get dressed! They are also really fun when you pair them with a patterned top, just be sure that the colors are complimentary. You can find the cheap at Target, Forever 21, or H & M. Or if you want to spend a little more; The Loft, Zara, or J. Crew.

It's October!

My favorite season is here, fall and the holidays! Fall means bringing out the adorable sweaters. Layering is so much fun! You can wear one dress many different ways with layering. One of my favorite trends for this fall is over the knee socks. So cute! You can pair them with flats or boots, with a dress, and a jacket. The colors are pretty similar to summer, except more subtle and dark. Army green, pine, teal, indigo, fuchsia, and syrah are some of my favorites. And do not be afraid to mix the colors you normally wouldn't, it makes a simple outfit pop! Accessories, accessories, accessories! There are morning wear you just want to wear a t-shirt and a jacket... Do it, and spice it up with an eccentric necklace, and wear those boyfriend jeans with it.
